SEED GUIDE

Propagation

Working placeholder

these seed notes need confirmation against the final propagation sources.

1 Collection

Collection windowLate June to July

Watch the small crane-bill seed pods closely. They open suddenly when ripe, so collect just before they open or cover the developing pods with small bags.

2 Processing and storage

Processing

Dry the capsules in a paper bag or covered container. Once dry, they will open and release the seeds.

Storage

Keep dried seeds in a cool, dry place if you are not planting right away. A sealed container in the refrigerator is a reasonable placeholder approach.

3 Cold treatment

Working placeholder: the seeds may need about 60 days of cold, moist conditions before they sprout.

4 Planting

Sow outdoors in fall so winter provides the cold period, or start indoors in spring after the cold treatment. Cover lightly with soil.
